Joe Chilvers, founder of The Production Department and The Training Department, has joined the council of the Production Services Association (PSA), the trade body representing the UK’s live production sector.
The PSA works across technical production for live events, with a focus on industry standards, training and workforce development. Chilvers’ appointment reflects a continued push within the sector to address skills gaps and improve entry level training routes.
Commenting on his appointment, Chilvers said: “Now serving as a Council Member of the Production Services Association (PSA), I’m committed to helping build a more connected, collaborative, and forward looking production services sector, one that values people, shares knowledge openly, and sets higher standards for the future of the industry.
The Training Department delivers foundation level courses aimed at new entrants to the industry, focusing on practical skills and on-site readiness. Its programmes are also eligible for support through the PSA’s bursary scheme, which offers funding to reduce barriers to training.
Hannah Ratcliffe, general manager of the PSA, said: “Joe’s enthusiasm and commitment to the industry is infectious, and the desire to support and grow the talent in the industry really shines in the development of The Training Department.
The appointment comes as live events continues to rebuild its workforce pipeline post-pandemic, with trade bodies and training providers placing greater emphasis on structured entry routes and skills development.
