EnTEEtainment will deliver a public celebration in London’s Trafalgar Square on Saturday 18 July to mark Nelson Mandela Day and the 30th anniversary of South Africa’s Constitution.

The Berkshire-based event agency is producing the free event with South African agency Change Architects on behalf of the South African High Commission.

Brand South Africa, South African Tourism and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture support the event, which is expected to attract up to 8,000 people for live music, food, storytelling and cultural activities.

EnTEEtainment is responsible for site management, operations, licensing, production subcontracting, artist liaison, food and beverage, marketing and PR. The agency is also coordinating 35 contractors and suppliers across the project.

The contract is EnTEEtainment’s highest-value project since Covid and its largest under managing director Frankie Tee, who took over the family business from founder Dick Tee in late 2024.

Frankie Tee said: “EnTEEtainment has always enjoyed working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Westminster, and it’s lovely to return to Trafalgar Square for such an important celebration. The spirit behind Nelson Mandela Day of bringing people together is something we genuinely believe in, and we’re honoured to play our part. It means something to work on a project celebrating culture and connection.

“An event like this only happens when people pull in the same direction, and we’ve had suppliers and team members turning things around on genuinely tight timelines, and that generosity is very much in keeping with the atmosphere of the day.”

Trafalgar Square has a longstanding connection with South Africa. It hosted anti-apartheid demonstrations and public shows of solidarity, and was one of the locations for Nelson Mandela’s first public appearances in London after his release from prison.
