beam launches updated governance framework after industry review

beam has officially released an enhanced governance framework, including an updated Code of Practice, a Good Business Conduct Policy and a Responsible Industry Charter, to reinforce clear industry standards.

The changes follow a sector-wide review. This included consultation with organisations such as The Business Travel Association, Meetings Industry Association, AIEA, and Venue Directory, while the Code is also supported by IACC and ABPCO.

The framework applies to all members. New members will commit on joining, while existing members will adopt it at renewal, as beam formalises standards across its network. It is structured around four areas. These are resilience, innovation, ethics, and quality.

“The latest review of beam’s Code of Practice has been one of the most significant pieces of work the association has undertaken in recent years. The result is an entirely updated governance framework which establishes a clear benchmark for how our industry operates and supports long-term confidence, resilience and professionalism,” Sian Sayward, governance director, said.
“beam now provides greater clarity in areas fundamental to trust and effective commercial relationships, giving members increased transparency, consistency, and defined professional standards and responsible practices.”

The updated Code of Practice includes changes to operational guidance. This covers commission transparency, enquiry handling, payment terms, and instant booking processes.

The Good Business Conduct Policy replaces the previous Code of Ethics. The Responsible Industry Charter is a new addition, reflecting increased focus on ESG requirements.

beam has also launched a service charge for MICE toolkit. This is designed to support members applying service charges, with guidance on clear and consistent implementation.

Andrew Clarke, commercial director at The Business Travel Association said, “Collaboration between industry associations is vital when developing frameworks that support the business travel and meetings ecosystem and the BTA was pleased to support this review. Recognised standards like this create consistency, transparency and trust, and when industry bodies work together on them, it benefits the whole industry with a strengthened professionalism and reputation.”
