Corpus Christi College

Founded in 1352, Corpus Christi College is the sixth oldest and second smallest College within the University of Cambridge. Uniquely, the College was founded in the aftermath of the Black Death by the townspeople of Cambridge and remains the only Oxbridge college not to be founded by royalty, nobility, or the Church.

Located in the heart of Cambridge, Corpus is an ideal base to explore the city by foot or punt as all the main sites are in close proximity.

The jewel in Corpus’ crown is the striking 19th century Neo-Gothic Dining Hall, providing that special ‘Cambridge’ feeling for both private and corporate events. The historical Dining Hall, with its high ceilings, striking artwork, and uniquely decorated walls, certainly adds the wow-factor to any event.

With seating for 150 guests, the Dining Hall is ideal for large gala dinners with bespoke menus, Christmas parties and weddings. Alternatively, the College boasts other, equally ornate, function rooms to provide a more intimate atmosphere for smaller dinners.

Executive Chef Ilias Arsenis and his team utilise the best modern culinary techniques and classical cooking methods to create innovative, seasonal menus. Combining flavours, textures, and high-quality ingredients set to wow the most distinguished audience. The quality of the food is matched by the level of service delivered by our highly trained Front of House Team.

On entering the College, guests are always stunned by the grandeur of New Court – one of the most-photographed locations in Cambridge – off which we can offer a range of contemporary and traditional spaces suitable for conferences, training days, private lunches and dinners. Conference rooms are equipped with smart screens and AV/IT facilities for hybrid meetings. The McCrum Lecture Theatre has built-in audio-visual equipment and lighting, for intuitive and simple conference facilitation which can hold up to 150 delegates.

Other noticeable spaces are Old Court and the Fellows’ Garden, with Old Court being the oldest continually inhabited courtyard within the country. With its four sides and the lawn at the centre, it typifies the model of construction of the colleges in Oxford or Cambridge. The pretty, hidden away, Fellows’ Garden is home to a 400-year-old mulberry tree given to the College by King James I as part of his attempt to establish a silk industry in England. Both areas are perfect spaces for gatherings and receptions, surrounded by living history they provide a memorable backdrop.

Bedrooms are available during for the Easter, summer and winter vacations. During the summer vacation we also offer modern ensuite rooms at our postgraduate site Leckhampton, which is set in beautiful gardens, providing a countryside feeling just a short walk from the city centre, with the rarity in Cambridge of free parking.

As one of the oldest colleges, sustainability is embedded in every aspect of life and work at Corpus. We are committed to minimising the carbon footprint and environmental impacts of the estate, operations, everyday working and study practices, and the food and resources that are consumed.

Gonville & Caius College

Gonville & Caius is one of the oldest University of Cambridge colleges. Originally named Gonville Hall, the College was founded by Edmund Gonville, Rector of Terrington in 1348. The College was re-founded in 1557 by former student and Fellow, Dr John Caius who, as part of his reconstruction, erected three Gates, which survive to the present day. New students enter the College through the Gate of Humility, while studying in the College they pass through the Gate of Virtue every day, and finally when they leave to receive their degrees, students depart through the Gate of Honour. The College has produced fifteen Nobel Prize winners, which is more than any Oxbridge College bar Trinity College, Cambridge. The latest Nobel Prize was jointly awarded to Professor Sir Peter Ratcliffe in 2019, who studied Medicine at Caius in 1972 and has made essential discoveries of how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability. In 2024, three Caians have been recognised in The King’s New Year Honours List.

During term, Caius is home to nearly 1,000 undergraduates, graduates, and academics. Students come to Caius from all over the world and undergraduates study all of the subjects offered in the University. Our Fellows have globally renowned expertise ranging from Ancient History to Medicine and are all recognised as leaders in their own fields. Gonville & Caius College is regularly one of the top performing Colleges in the University of Cambridge league tables and this same commitment to excellence is applied to corporate and private events.

Caius provides a combination of traditional meeting rooms and elegant dining rooms in the impressive setting of Old Courts, conveniently located in the centre of Cambridge. Our West Road Site just moments from the famous College “Backs” offers modern meeting facilities the largest event space is the Cavonius Centre, which can hold up to 120 delegates and Harvey Court gardens can host 300 for a BBQ. During vacation periods our modern ensuite bedrooms are available for residential conferences, group bookings and private visitors.

The College prides itself on the reputation it has gained for excellent food and service standards. Offering a wide range of private dining rooms, seating from 15 to 180 guests. The chefs provide mouth-watering dishes to suit all dietary requirements – their creations have satisfied the most discerning food critics! Menus can be tailored to suit a particular event or celebration. We listen to our clients and adapt to the ever-changing event environment thus we now offer full Vegan and Vegetarian menus.

The Old Courts Dining Hall, designed by Anthony Salvin, was built in 1854, replacing the ancient Hall in the north-west corner of Gonville Court. The Hall is decorated with art by a mixture of traditional and contemporary artists. Of particular note, are the stained-glass windows which honour famous Caians. The College flag taken by Caius alumnus – Adrian Wilson – to the South Pole in 1911, now graces the Hall placed behind a curtain next to the High Table.

Gonville & Caius Conferences have won three Cambridge BID (Business Improvement District) awards, competing with 1,200 city centre businesses. The College received awards for Overall Best Customer Service, Best Customer Service within a Professional Business (Other), and Best Customer Service in the University B&B category.
