In this series, features and series developer Heather Nicholls takes you behind the scenes of some of the most compelling brand activations and events.

In this edition we meet Evolve Events, the agency behind Christmas Conjured at The Magicians Table.

The Brief:

The brief was simple but challenging: take The Magicians Table, an existing intimate magic venue in a Victorian Bermondsey warehouse and transform it into a competitive Christmas part offering for the corporate market.

The Execution:

Evolve Events interpreted the brief as an opportunity to create Christmas Conjured – a complete corporate events package that wrapped the venue’s existing theatrical magic expertise inside a food, drink and hospitality framework.

The agency’s role was to design the corporate experience architecture to turn an intimate magic venue into a complete Christmas party solution that could compete with established corporate venues. Instead of fighting the venue’s raw industrial character with tradional festive decoration, the agency leaned into its theatrical DNA, creating a narrative-led evening where magic, dining, cocktails and celebration flow as one continuous immersive experience.

Anna Peters, creative director at Evolve Events said: “The inspiration for this event came from recognising what The Magicians Table already did brilliantly (intimate, close-up magic in a characterful Victorian warehouse) and understanding how that could solve a corporate market problem.”

She added: “Corporate bookers were telling us their teams were tired of traditional Christmas party formats: themed rooms, background entertainment, predictable progression. Meanwhile, The Magicians Table had this extraordinary space and world-class magical talent but wasn’t positioned to capture the corporate market. We saw an opportunity to create an anti-traditional corporate offering by leaning into what made the venue unique: low ceilings that create intimacy rather than grandeur, exposed brickwork that feels secretive rather than polished, Magic Circle performers who specialise in proximity and participation.”

The agency also added in Victorian parlour magic and immersive theatre but applied it through a corporate hospitality lens. Peters added: “The question became: how do we wrap exceptional magic inside a complete food, drink and event management package that gives corporate bookers confidence to book? The answer was Christmas Conjured, a product that feels like a theatrical experience but functions operationally as a reliable corporate events solution.”

In order to develop the idea, the agency started by understanding The Magicians Table’s existing capabilities (their performance expertise, venue character and operational constraints) then built the corporate package around those foundations. The agency then went through for phases to create the event:

Phase 1: Experience design
The agency mapped the emotional journey for corporate groups: arrival and curiosity, connection through proximity, escalating surprise, a collective peak moment and celebratory conclusion.

Phase 2: Operational architecture
The warehouse has no commercial kitchen, limited power and tight load-in windows. Evolve Events brought in Boulevard Events to develop menus that could be executed within these constraints – dishes that travel well, finish efficiently on-site and time perfectly between performance beats. Mixologist Conrad Harshaw’s cocktail menu supported the narrative while being operationally deliverable.

Phase 3: Performance integration
Working with The Magicians Table’s existing performers, magic occurred in different formats throughout the evening, including roaming close-up during arrival, table-side illusions during dining and a collective finale show, all timed to never clash with service.

Phase 4: Corporate packaging
The agency created easy booking structures, capacity guidelines, pricing models, flexible dining options for standing to seated and dedicated event management support, giving corporate bookers the confidence and single point of contact they need. Execution required precision coordination between performers, catering, front-of-house and technical teams to ensure the experience felt seamless.

Throughout the project, Evolve Events and The Magicians Table collaborated closely. The magicians table bought deep understanding of illusion, narrative and tried and tested delivery. Evolve Events brought corporate market insight, supplier relationships, operational frameworks and confidence that this unconventional format would actually sell to companies. Evolve Events bought suppliers in as creative collaborators early. Boulevard Events weren’t given a brief for standard ‘Christmas party catering’ instead they were asked asked to design food service that could happen during a theatrical performance without disrupting immersion. Our role was to be the connective tissue, translating

Peters said: “Everyone worked to shared principles: storytelling that brings people together, showcasing world-class performers and creating a celebration that honours the venue’s unique character.”

Peters explains that the biggest challenge was creating a corporate-standard hospitality experience inside a Grade II-listed Victorian warehouse with no commercial kitchen, limited power capacity, tight load in windows and minimal back of house space, while maintaining the intimate, theatrical atmosphere that makes The Magicians Table special. Peters said: “Most corporate venues have infrastructure purpose-built for events. We were working with a performance space that was never designed for large-scale catering or group hospitality.”

The agency overcame this by designing every element specifically for these constraints rather than trying to force traditional event formats into an unsuitable space:

  • Food: Worked with Boulevard Events to develop roaming canap?s, shared platters and paced plated courses that could be executed without a full kitchen, delivered via carefully mapped routes that kept service invisible.
  • Drinks: Created a cocktail program with Conrad Harshaw that was both theatrically compelling and operationally achievable within power and space limitations.
  • Flow: Choreographed performer timing, service routes and room transitions (from show to dining to dancefloor) managed to the second to ensure magic and hospitality never competed for attention. The constraints became our differentiator. The venue’s intimacy and operational challenges forced us to create something genuinely unique rather than falling back on standard corporate event formats.

The Results:

Peters said: “Christmas Conjured became a complete reinvention of what a corporate Christmas party could be.”

Instead of guests arriving at a decorated venue with entertainment added, they stepped into a theatrical world the moment they entered. The victorian warehouse was transformed with vintage curiosity cabinets, velvet drapes and candlelit corners.

Eight world-class magicians (all Magic Circle members) roamed the space from arrival, performing close-up illusions within touching distance. The evening flowed through carefully choreographed phases: pre-show cocktails with roaming magic, cabaret-style dining with table-side illusions woven between courses, a narrative-driven theatrical finale written by BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning writer Iain Sharkey and a seamless transition to a DJ and dancefloor.

Peters said: “The outcome was exclusive buy-out bookings, strong corporate engagement and genuine word-of-mouth traction within the industry in a market typically dominated by established players. More importantly, we achieved emotional responses you rarely see at corporate events from genuine surprise, shared wonder with teams still talking about moments weeks later.”

For the client the following outcomes were achieved:

  • Market access: The venue moved from public bookings to attracting corporate clients, a completely new customer segment with different booking patterns.
  • Commercial performance: Consistent corporate events throughout the festive season with groups of around 120 guests. Strong repeat booking interest for following years.
  • Market positioning: Trade press coverage and venue search platform recommendations positioned Christmas Conjured as a genuinely new concept rather than another festive venue variation. Event planners began recommending it specifically for clients requesting alternatives to traditional offerings.
  • Product development: We created a repeatable, scalable corporate events package that could be confidently sold with clear pricing, capacity guidelines, supplier relationships and operational frameworks in place.
  • Strategic value: Most importantly, we proved the venue could successfully compete in the corporate Christmas market, validating potential for year-round corporate programming beyond seasonal bookings.

Peters said: “For Evolve Events, this demonstrated our ability to take an existing venue’s creative strengths and build a complete corporate product around them.”

Industry professionals, such as venue search agencies called the event “a truly unique and immersive experience… a welcome new addition to London’s rich tapestry of interactive Christmas Party venues.” Whilst one agency said: “Our clients had a fantastic time, with some already securing The Magician’s Table as the venue for their upcoming Christmas events. It really was that good!”
