Legends Global has outlined its first-year progress as operator of Sheffield City Hall and the Utilita Arena Sheffield.

The company took over both venues less than a year ago and has focused on planning, investment and operational change.

It assumed management from a charitable trust that had run the sites for more than 30 years. The early work has centred on reviewing systems, speaking with stakeholders and setting priorities for long-term development. The aim is to keep both venues central to Sheffield’s cultural and conference sectors for decades.

Sheffield City Hall has reported strong association wins. Recent bookings include the 167th Sheffield Chamber of Commerce AGM, which took place at the venue for the first time and achieved its highest-ever attendance. Other events include the Society of Garden Designers Conference, The Children’s Media Conference, and a national meeting for the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society scheduled for June 2026.

City Hall is also working with Marketing Sheffield and the city’s ambassador programme. Their joint efforts target association meetings linked to local strengths in universities, healthcare and industry. This ranges from surgical innovation tied to Sheffield’s steel heritage to new technology events.

Zoe Ward, sales director C&E at Legends Global, said: “We’ve used this transition period to understand the venues and their potential, and now we’re putting long-term plans into action. Big investment is coming, especially in front-of-house areas and venue technology, to elevate the visitor experience and future-proof these historic buildings.”

Sheffield City Hall is 94 years old, while the Utilita Arena Sheffield is 34. Legends Global has committed to a 25-year reinvestment plan that will upgrade both venues and strengthen their long-term viability.

The events mix at City Hall has remained broad. Bookings this year include the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Supply Chain Initiative Conference and the CIVICA tech meeting. The Utilita Arena has continued to host large entertainment events and broadcast productions, including BBC filming with Hungry Bear and MGM Studios.

Visible upgrades will begin over the next 6 to 18 months. Work will focus on infrastructure, guest areas, operational support and backstage technology. The changes aim to meet evolving expectations from both corporate and entertainment clients.

Kerrie Shakeshaft, who leads the C&E teams at Sheffield City Hall and the Utilita Arena Sheffield, said: “Over the years we have forged a reputation of excellence, built on successfully delivering major events from concerts, live entertainment, national and international multi-sport events, conferences, dinners and exhibitions to intimate meetings, all delivered with enthusiasm, professionalism, flexibility, and personality. With our history and heritage delivering prestigious events, everything we host helps build Sheffield’s profile as a world-class destination and with the strength of the ‘Made in Sheffield’ brand behind us, our legacy will continue for many years to come.”
