Greengage Solutions is developing new tools to help hotel groups manage their ECOsmart sustainability certification across all properties at once.

ECOsmart is Greengage’s independently audited certification for hotels and meeting venues. Each property is assessed against the ECOsmart standard, with Greengage supporting hotel groups through the process.

The new features will let groups manage information and evidence that applies to all their hotels in one place, so individual properties don’t have to submit the same material separately. A new Group Dashboard will give sustainability and operations teams a single view of certification across all their properties. The tools build on ECOsmart’s existing technology, including SMARTscan AI, which Greengage says speeds up data gathering.

Andrew Perolls, CEO of Greengage Solutions, said: “Hotel groups shouldn’t have to multiply the workload every time they add another property to their sustainability certification.”

New EU rules on green claims

The development comes as new EU rules on environmental claims take effect. Since 27 September, under the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, businesses can no longer use broad terms such as “green” or “environmentally friendly” in marketing to EU consumers unless they can show recognised excellent environmental performance. Sustainability labels must now be based on a certification scheme or set up by public authorities. The rules apply to any business selling to consumers in the EU, wherever it is based.

Perolls said: “With the strengthening of rules on environmental claims, credible, evidence-based certification is becoming even more important.”
