EventWell, the UK’s neuroinclusion and mental wellbeing social enterprise for the events industry, has announced the launch of the Quiet Room Safety and Supervision Standard (QSSS), the first operational benchmark designed to ensure quiet rooms and sensory spaces at events are safe, supervised and properly supported.
This has been developed in response to widespread inconsistencies in how quiet rooms are implemented across events, QSSS establishes minimum safety, staffing and operational requirements for any venue and organiser offering a quiet or sensory space.
Despite the growing focus on neuroinclusion, many quiet rooms in the UK remain under-resourced and unsupervised, posing significant risks to vulnerable attendees. EventWell’s own operational data, gathered across four years and thousands of attendee interactions, highlights the need for active supervision, trauma-informed support, and safety protocols in these environments.

QSSS™ outlines core requirements include:
- Mandatory trained supervision for all hours of operation
- Trauma-informed host training and safeguarding protocols
- Clear monitoring, de-escalation and crisis response procedures
- Safe physical layout and sensory environment standards
- Incident reporting, data collection and continuous improvement measures
The standard is designed for use by event organisers, venues, production and operations teams, accessibility consultants, exhibitions, festivals, conferences and sporting events.
QSSS™ is available in three certification levels, Silver, Gold and Platinum, allowing events of all sizes to implement safe and compliant quiet spaces.
