The Delegate Wranglers founder to join Facebook VP to talk about online communities
The founder of The Delegate Wranglers Facebook group, Neil Thompson, is to appear as a panellist at the CogX Global Leadership Summit & Festival of AI & Emerging Technologies, which runs 8-10 June 2020 on a digital platform.
Representing the events industry, Thompson will feature on the Createch stage alongside founders of other successful groups, including Mel Bound of This Mums Run and Anne Scott of Girl Gone International. The session will be chaired by Nicola Mendelsohn CBE, vice president, EMEA, Facebook.
The session, called Community Personified, will take place at midday (BST) on 9 June, registration and ticket purchase can be made here.
“I am absolutely delighted to be invited to join the panel,” said Thompson. “We will be discussing the work we have done for our communities throughout the Covid19 crisis. I will pay particular attention to the ways we have kept people motivated, engaged, up-skilled and focused throughout this testing time, without letting the negativity slip in.
“It has never been more important to keep communities together, especially with so much uncertainty and anxiety about the future. Collaboration is what makes us strong, and I’m delighted to be able to share what our DW community has done to support each other.”
The Delegate Wranglers Facebook group was set up by Thompson a few years ago and has become the UK’s biggest online community for event professionals. In a relatively short space of time the group has grown to circa 20,000 members, which is a good number on its own, yet grows on average by 500 each month.
Over a typical 28-day period, over 80% of the members use the group, with around 40-60 new posts each day. Pre-Covid-19, the group was bringing in millions of pounds-worth of business leads to the industry each month.
The Createch stage has been billed as a platform to offer an upbeat vision of how converging creativity and technology can improve how we connect, create, and consume.
