ICC Belfast, Alexandra Palace, Royal Albert Hall close

A string of high-profile venues have all shut up shop today, following the government's advice surrounding Covid-19.

ICC Belfast is closed until 17 April, with a review of this decision to be made on 6 April. Alexandra Palace and the Royal Albert Hall are closed until further notice.

A statement on the ICC Belfast website reads: “Events will be rescheduled to future dates where possible. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly and has been done in order to protect public health. Belfast City Council and BWUH senior management have been in consultation daily as the situation has developed. The measures implemented are in response to business demand and forecasts as well as client and customer sentiment."

The Royal Albert Hall statement commented: “We’ve been here for the nation for almost 150 years in good times and bad. We exist to be open, to entertain, to inspire. Our doors are made to be open to the world and so it goes against everything in our nature to close them. But these aren’t normal times, and we find ourselves in the unique situation where closing our doors is the best way to look after the world.”

A statement on the Alexandra Palace website added: "We hope you understand that we are in unprecedented times and our responsibility is to ensure that we operate responsibly. We advise you visit the individual pages on our website for latest updates on the events and activities that you attend, or were planning to attend."
