CALL TO ACTION: Demand support from MPs, says Meetings Industry Association
The Meetings Industry Association says it is urgently declaring to government the need for a tailored package of business support for the events industry.
England and Scotland entered full national lockdown on 5 January, following Wales, which had been locked down since 20 December, with chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak following the announcement with an updated package of financial support, which trade bodies worry will not benefit the events industry.
Ahead of Monday’s parliamentary debate regarding further financial support to both the events and hospitality industry, the Meetings Industry Association are calling for the following measures:
- Extended business rates holiday to April 2022
- Extended Furlough until end Q3
- CBILS and Bounce Back
- Underwrite events insurance
- Recovery package
- Change in government responsibility for the sector
The association is calling on everyone in the events sector to write to their MPs expressing their request for necessary intervention to support the sector through the continued stage of forced closure.
