Society finds elbow room at ICC Wales for 2023 conference

The International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) has won the right to host the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) annual conference in June 2023.

Around 700 delegates are expected to attend the conference which will take place over four days at the new venue in Newport, which opens in 2019.

BESS promotes innovation in teaching, learning and research in order to advance education in shoulder and elbow surgery.

BESS conference organiser Jai Mistry said: “The BESS annual conference is key to the aims and objectives of BESS and an important focal point for our members. Hosting the meeting at a brand new, state-of-the-art venue like ICC Wales will be incredibly exciting and provides an extra stimulus for members to get involved.”

Ian Edwards, CEO of ICC Wales, welcomed news of the latest Association event to be confirmed for ICC Wales.

“The building is now visible from the M4, and it’s really exciting to see the fantastic progress being made on site every day,” said Edwards.

An £84m joint venture between Celtic Manor Resort and the Welsh government, ICC Wales will be able to accommodate up to 5,000 delegates. The venue includes a 4,000sqm pillar-free main hall, a 1,500-seated auditorium, 12 flexible meeting rooms, a double-height glass atrium and a 2,500sqm outdoor plaza.
