Edinburgh Castle Technology has been identified as one of the key factors that will enable Edinburgh to grow its tourism industry, as highlighted in the Edinburgh Tourism Strategy launched recently.

Following this, Interactive Scotland, in conjunction with the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) and Scottish Enterprise, is set to host a Technology Solutions in Tourism event. To be held on 23 February, the event has been designed to highlight the technology and digital media solutions that are changing the tourism industry.

“Edinburgh has had an outstanding track record of success over the past 20 years, both in terms of the volume and value of tourism,” said Chair of the ETAG, Robin Worsnop. “However, to compete on the world stage, we must keep pace with the change in technological developments.

“One of the ways in which we can promote Scotland’s many tourist attractions and improve the visitor experience while they are here is through the use of digital technology.”

He adds: “I am delighted that the Technology Solutions in Tourism event is following on so quickly after the tourism strategy launch and would urge all tourism-related businesses in the city to come and find out how they can capitalise on the opportunities that technology offers.”

Technology Solutions in Tourism is open to tourism businesses in the Edinburgh and surrounding areas and digital media businesses from across Scotland. The event is being held at the John McIntrye Conference Centre, Pollock Halls, Edinburgh.

The recently-launched strategy has set three objectives to be achieved by 2020: to increase the number of visitors to the city by one third; to increase the average spending of visitors to the city by 10 per cent (on 2010 prices) and to reduce seasonality across the sector.
