Scotland’s business tourism industry will explore the future of the sector in Glasgow 19 November as the city welcomes the Business Tourism Scotland Conference 2012.
Bob Wendover, from the PCMA Educational Foundation, and meetings technology guru, Corbin Ball (pictured), will lead the speaker line up.
Organisers says the one-day conference at Glasgow Science Centre will focus on how the business tourism industry, which contributes £878m to the Scottish economy, can grow further.
Wendover, long-standing director of The Centre for Generational Studies, will discuss the ‘Millennial Generation’ and deliver a session based on research into attracting business tourists within the challenge of social change.
Ball will imagine the conference trends of the future and explore the impact on the industry of social media, mobile technology, location-aware technology, and ROI measurement plus offering advice on preparing for the future.
The afternoon will feature a panel session featuring Leigh Jagger, Banks Sadler; Fay Sharpe, Zibrant; Michael Foreman, Kenes UK and Chair of ABPCO; and Mike Kimmons, Chief Executive, British Orthopaedic Association.
Neil Brownlee, Head of the VisitScotland Business Tourism Unit, said: “If we are to maintain and develop our position on the world stage, we must look to the future and think ahead of the present to the conferences and events of 2020 and beyond. We are seeing a new generation of buyers coming into the industry; a generation which has grown up in the online world and which expects constant innovation, both in terms of technology and new ideas. Scotland’s challenge is to keep up with the pace of change.”
The conference will close with a speech from Fergus Ewing, Scottish Government Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism.
