Professional travel management company association, the Guild of Travel Management Companies’ (GTMC) third quarterly 2012 transaction survey has detected a one per cent decrease in business.
The survey monitors a range of services offered by travel management companies and highlights trends in the business travel sector. Overall transactions for the period July-September 2012 dipped slightly over the same period last year.
GTMC Chairman Ajaya Sodha blamed the decrease “totally on a drop in air transactions which are four per cent down on the same quarter in 2011”.
The survey also showed hotel sales stalling, however, with no growth in the quarter and just two per cent up year on year.
“The next set of figures will be revealing with the recession officially over, everybody back at work full on and no public holidays or major events until Christmas,” Sodha added.
Rail sales have fallen back significantly from the 14 per cent increase in Q2 but still remain well ahead of 2011 and are three per cent up on the same quarter last year. Car hire continues to hold its own also showing three per cent growth for the quarter and nine per cent up year on year.
Sales of other services, which include consultancy services, ferries, visas, currency exchange and meet and greet, the new survey found, were three per cent ahead of the same quarter in 2011 and six per cent up on the running year comparison.
