The new Secretary of State for Health, The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, has signed up to speak at the National Children’s and Adult Services Annual Conference in Eastbourne.
The conference, held at the Devonshire Park Centre from 24 to 26 October, is organised by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) and will feature an opening speech by The Rt Hon David Laws MP, following his return to government as the new Minister of State for Schools.
The three-day conference is due to attract over 800 delegates to the south coast resort, providing an autumnal boost for local hotels and restaurants with an anticipated £1m in economic benefit to the town.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Carolyn Heaps said: “Health and education are the cornerstone of our society, and with such high profile speakers, I am sure this will be a fascinating conference.”
Other ministerial speakers addressing the conference include the Minister of State for Care Services, Norman Lamb MP and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families, Edward Timpson MP, both recently appointed to their roles. Shadow Health Secretary, The Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP and Shadow Education Secretary, Stephen Twigg MP will also both provide a keynote address on behalf of Labour.
The three-day programme also consists of an exhibition, networking events and a mix of breakout policy and innovation sessions.
The conference is open to councillors, MP’s, directors, senior officers, policy makers and managers with responsibilities for children’s services and adult care.
The Devonshire Park Centre in Eastbourne is home to one of the largest auditoriums in the south east, seating up to 1,700 people.
