The conference division of Leeds Metropolitan University, Well Met Conferencing, has signed a partnership with the YHA (formerly known as the Youth Hostels Association) to be the sole provider of the organisation’s accommodation in Leeds.
As well as Carnegie Village, Leeds Met’s three-star residential development providing year-round accommodation, people looking for accommodation that is associated with YHA will now be able to use the University’s Kirkstall Brewery and Opal venues during the summer period.
YHA has shed its former reputation of bunk beds and 60s dormitories by investing over £19.5m in recent years, as part of the charity’s capital investment programme, in to its network of Youth Hostels in England and Wales. The network of 150 Youth Hostels provides modern accommodation, with many hostels now boasting private en-suite rooms, restaurants and bars.
Leeds Met’s accommodation comes under the YHA’s Enterprise Scheme, which seeks out independent properties which YHA promotes through third-party sites such as Hostel World internationally.
“For Well Met Conferencing to be the only provider of YHA accommodation in the city is a great coup for the University and we are looking forward to targeting a new area of customers, both here and abroad, as a result of the scheme,” said Business Development Manager at Well Met Conferencing, Kate Davis.
John McGrath, Head of Enterprise and Procurement at YHA (England and Wales) said: “An added benefit of being part of the University is that they are well-known for serving thousands of students on a daily basis; therefore there are excellent public transport links.”
