In a decision which can only assist the meetings industry, the UK Border Agency has said it is working on fast-track passport lanes for business travellers at Heathrow and other British airports.
The Guardian newspaper has reported the departing head of the UK Border Agency, Brian Moore, told MPs at a Commons Home Affairs Committee meeting that passengers who were considered ‘high-value’ by the airlines or ’valuable to the British economy’ would be given priority treatment at immigration control.
He said the move would also help to ease congestion, which saw people wait up to two hours at border control earlier this year during busy periods, and would signal Britain was “open for business”.
The newspaper said ministers are considering the idea.
It was revealed earlier in the year that there are plans for an £1,800 service by the UK Border Agency, which would allow those paying the fee to be given a priority service. This would involve a limousine for up to six passengers picking them up from the aircraft to a VIP suite where their passports are checked and luggage delivered to them.
