Boris Johnson Having captured the world’s imagination with the London 2012 Games, London is keen to keep up the pace and has already lined up a major calendar of events for 2013.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson hailed London 2012 as the "Golden Games" during a "summer like no other" following a successful Olympic Games and record-reaking Paralympic Games, and pledged to secure an enduring legacy for the city. With 2013 already looking positive in terms of new and returning events, the UK capital is focusing on ensuring that pledge comes into fruition.

"London is still buzzing from the positive contagion which spread through the capital during the 2012 Games, and I am determined to use the fantastic summer as a springboard for the future," said Johnson. "We have already lined up an exciting calendar of cultural and sporting events for the coming months, which will cement London’s reputation as the best city in the world to host major events."

Head of Major Events at London & Partners, Iain Edmondson, adds: "It’s hard to top the most incredible summer of sport that London has ever seen but as a result of its success, we have a population of event goers wanting to get involved - whether its participating or cheering on. With the diverse array of events already lined up London fans and event enthusiasts have much to look forward to."

A new highlight for the 2013 calendar is a mass participation cycling event in August for RideLondon, an event predicted to be the largest cycling fundraising event in the world. Other sporting events for London in 2013 include the return of Six Nations Rugby, the UEFA Champions League Final in May and the ITU Triathlon World Series Grand Final in September.

Complimenting these sporting events are cultural events such as the New Year’s Eve Fireworks, Taste of London and the Notting Hill carnival, as well as London Fashion Week, the London Design Festival and London Film Festival in October.
