Business Process Outsourcing company, Capita, has acquired the business travel and conference booking agency Expotel Group, including its venue sourcing agency, Venues Event Management, for £16m on a cash-free, debt-free basis.
These two companies will join Capita’s existing UK event and meetings management and supplier companies Booking Services International (BSI) and Capita Business Travel.
The MD of Capita’s travel business, Trevor Elswood, says the combining of Expotel, BSI and Capita Business Travel will create an “influential player in the travel and meetings sectors to deliver innovative, class-leading solutions in technology and quality service to a broad range of customers”.
Expotel’s current clients include National Grid, Virgin Media and the Scottish Government. Expotel made s pro forma operating profit for its financial year to 31 October 2011 of £3.2m on a turnover of £16.3m.
"This is great news for current and future customers of Expotel, BSI and Capita Business Travel who will gain significant benefits in service and choice as we align these leading providers. We have significant scale and expertise covering rail, air and accommodation along with, now, extensive experience in venue and event management which positions the business to take advantage of the fast growing meetings market.
“The acquisition is also consistent with our strategy of bringing together the industry’s best specialists to create a unique UK travel management proposition in addition to offering leading specialist services in each individual area,” he adds.
The combined company will employ nearly 900 staff in 10 locations.
With 46,500 people at more than 350 sites, including 68 business centres across Europe and India, the Group posted a 2011 turnover of £2.9bn and profit before tax of £385m.
