Nottingham is to showcase its conference and event credentials at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) next month following its success in securing trade union GMB’s Congress for the city in 2014.
TUC, which represents British workers, has 54 member unions representing more than 6m people. The 2012 event will bring these unions together to shape policy and share ideas, and is taking place 9 - 12 September in Brighton.
Experience Nottinghamshire, Nottingham’s convention bureau, will be representing the city at the Congress, in partnership with the Nottingham Hoteliers Association, National Ice Centre and Royal Concert Hall, in the hope of securing more union business in the form of events, conferences and meetings for Nottingham.
David Randall, Director of Conferencing and Events for Experience Nottinghamshire, said the unions represent major potential economic impact: “The GMB Congress in 2014 is worth an estimated £1m to Nottingham, and will be bringing 800 delegates here. We’re hoping that our presence at this year’s TUC will help secure more lucrative union events for the city.”
The Nottingham stand will present to unions the benefits of holding an event here, such as the major venues within the city centre, the green credentials of the city, ease of planning and transport links.
