Fifteen staff members of the Zibrant meetings and events agency completed a 482-mile cycle ride from their offices in Paris to global operations base in Derby recently to raise £15,000 for charity.
Joint Managing Director, Fay Sharpe, was in the Zibrant peloton welcomed by the Mayor of Derby, Councillor, Lisa Higginbottom.
The ‘Tour de Zibrant’, which lasted six days, supported three charities: Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY); Send a Cow, which supports communities in Africa by providing livestock and training; and Muscle Dreams, which delivers unforgettable experiences for children in the UK suffering from the muscle wasting disease muscular dystrophy.
“The Tour de Zibrant has been an amazing experience and a terrific show of teamwork - we’ve had enormous hills, punctures, the odd collision, emergency gel seats, and gone through vast quantities of chamois cream - but we made it,” said Sharpe.
“It is a great privilege to be able to support these very deserving charities and we are grateful for all the sponsorship received.
“Although we trained hard in advance, most of us are not ‘proper’ cyclists and it was tough at times, but no one was giving in and it was a truly uplifting experience.”
Alison Cox MBE, Chief Executive and Founder of CRY, said the Zibrant team had helped to raise a great deal of awareness about young sudden cardiac death, as well as “a fantastic amount of money for our on-going work, including our pioneering screening programme. We are grateful for their magnificent efforts, after the terrible sudden death of their friend, Sarah Gamble. On behalf of us all at CRY, I would like to say a huge ‘Thank you’.”
Sponsors of the Zibrant Tour included Radisson Blu Charles de Gaulle, Thistle Brands Hatch, Macdonald Swans Nest Hotel and Mercure Elcot Park which each hosted one night’s dinner bed and breakfast for all of the riders and support crew.
The Stratford Hotel (Q Hotels) who provided one night’s dinner for all of the riders and the support crew
