Minister for Tourism John Penrose has given renewed public backing for the Britain for Events campaign.
Penrose, who appeared at International Confex 2012, says in his latest statement: "This is the year for the events industry in the UK ? with the arrival of the Olympic Games later this month we have an opportunity to show what we can do on the biggest stage. As a supporter of the Britain for Events campaign I would like to pass on my support for this important industry, both in representing the UK in 2012 and its role in delivering the legacy of the Games in 2013 and beyond.”
The Minister adds: “Britain for Events remains a wonderful example of how the private and public sectors can work together to benefit industries that bring economic prosperity to the UK. I believe by working together we can grow this industry still further, and continue to stage some of the finest conferences and exhibitions in the world.”
Michael Hirst, Chair of the Business Visits & Events Partnership and spokesperson for the Britain for Events campaign, acknowledged the Minister’s ongoing support for the campaign and the UK events industry.
"In John, we have a Minister that really understands the power of events and is working to underline the importance of the industry, at the highest levels of Government,” said Hirst.
