VisitAberdeen, the new Destination Management Organisation (DMO) funded by Aberdeen City Council, has appointed Steve Harris as its new Chief Executive Officer.
He will move from his current position as Head of UK Media Relations at Shell to take up the new post on 14 August. “Steve will temporarily be based at the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce offices,” AGCC CEO Robert Collier told CN.
Harris will lead VisitAberdeen and report to a board chaired by Colin Crosby and which includes representatives from the Aberdeen BID (Business Improvement District), Aberdeen City and Shire Hotels Association, Aberdeen City Council and independent members.
“Steve will have the responsibility for the global marketing of Aberdeen and for making a significant contribution to the economy of Aberdeen and its profile as a destination for leisure and business tourism,” said Crosby.
Harris met VisitAberdeen stakeholders at a consultation meeting last week at the Thistle Hotel Altens in Aberdeen, where the first draft of the DMO business plan was presented for feedback from the private and public sectors.
“Aberdeen needs a proactive body to implement and deliver a marketing strategy which establishes the city’s brand to relevant potential visitors,” said Harris.
“I am confident that the core funding which has come from the partner organisations and the contributions from the private sector both financial and in kind, will allow us to meet our objectives. VisitAberdeen will be a high profile and influential marketing organisation,” he added.
