Luxury hotel collection, Hand Picked Hotels, has acquired the Grade II listed Bailbrook House Hotel in Bath. Bailbrook House Hotel currently has 78 bedrooms and 30 meeting rooms, a restaurant and bar and fitness, beauty and spa facilities.
The hotel and conference centre has been acquired from investor clients of real estate advisory company Delancey for an undisclosed sum. The hotel will be operated and managed by Hand Picked Hotels.
The acquisition, says Hand Picked Hotels, is part of a strategic expansion to establish a presence in the South-west.
Following an extensive refurbishment programme over the next two years, Bailbrook House Hotel will become part of the collection, bringing the total portfolio to 18 properties across the UK.
Bailbrook House Hotel, an early 19th century property in 20 acres of grounds, is one mile from the city centre in Bath. A former private country house, it was originally designed by Bath architect John Eveleigh for a wealthy lawyer, Dr Denham Skeet. The property was acquired by Hilwood Resorts and Hotels in 2007 from the Sundial Group.
Julia Hands, who created Hand Picked Hotels in 2001 from a collection of hotels purchased with her husband, city financier Guy Hands, said: “We have been searching for some time for the right opportunity to provide Hand Picked Hotels with a strategic presence in the South-west.
“Bailbrook House Hotel has enormous potential and we will be using our experience of working with listed properties to deliver a refurbishment that will enhance its heritage.”
