Rene Dee Former CEO of London venue marketing consortium The Westminster Collection, Rene Dee, has been appointed Expert Advisor to EventCourse training.

Ashdown Academy offers The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) accredited training course for future event professionals and is now appointing expert advisors to enhance the benefits they can offer students.

"The age old question remains over the benefits of learning versus experience, to which there is no definitive answer," says Dee. "However, it is worth understanding the value that those who do take the event management training route perceive to have gained, over those that do not."

EventCourse aims to create powerful training experiences that give students a competitive advantage when finding jobs and entering the workplace, with both experience and a network of contacts.

"When a student comes to work for us they need to be ready to go. Events don’t hang around and mistakes can be costly on a live project. We cant afford to spend three months re-training a graduate, they need to be able to contribute from the start," says MD of technology company M-is, Jim Curley.

Dee, who has worked in the events industry for the past 40 years, believes that combining practical learning, work placements and accreditation will help address the dilemma of training versus experience.

"EventCourse offers a blend of practical, hands on learning alongside the experience of actually working in a placement, giving students the opportunity to put theory into practice," Dee adds.
