The conference element of Service Management Expo (SME), an annual
event for the European field service market, was a major factor in
driving a two per cent increase in visitors, says organiser UBM.
SME, now in its 27th year,took place at Birmingham’s NEC Pavilion 20-21 September.
The conference ran under the title, ‘The Modern Field Engineer’ and drew 600 a record 600 delegates.
Broadcaster Maggie Philbin headed the list of speakers including from Portugal Telecom and ADT.
The conference agenda had a major overhaul for 2011, with 17 sessions and two keynote presentations and panel discussions. There was an opportunity for visitors to quiz experts from BT Global Services, Deloitte and Solarvista. Andy Kershaw, Service Manager at Scan COIN who spoke on engaging field engineers to increase customer service said: “The full education offer is a great way for visitors to learn about the industry.”
There were 13 presentations from suppliers including Cognito, TomTom, Honeywell and Telogis on a range of topics including integrated analytics and performance management tools, CO2 reduction programmes, workforce productivity and telematics systems.
Sarah Kerr of Close Circuit Security Services supported the value of face-to-face. “We attended the show to find a new service desk provider. We saw three demonstrations and there was one clear winner, so I have definitely achieved my objective.”
There were interactive features in the Solutions Theatre and live product demonstrations.
