York-based NYS Corporate has won £4m worth of venue-finding and meetings management business from Telefónica O2 UK. The two-year contract was won through a competitive tender. The company attributed its bid win to its ability to provide auditable cost savings and user-friendly technology.

The contract follows NYS Corporate winning a position on all lots of the Buying Solutions travel framework agreement, and an extension to the long-standing contract with RSA Insurance for conference and meeting requirements.

NYS Corporate’s Managing Director, Daryl Pinnington (pictured), said he was “absolutely delighted” with the O2contract win. “We look forward to tailoring our service to both support their high profile marketing activity, while delivering cost efficiencies wherever possible,” he said.

Allison Webb, Category Manager Marketing - Events and Internal Communication from O2, adds: “During the competitive process, NYS Corporate stood out as offering a clear cultural fit and the kind of quality required by O2. They also provide clear, transparent ways to control and reduce spending. We are looking forward to working together.”

Pinnington told CN the O2 win continued the growth the company saw in the second half of last year. “As yet, there is no sign of a ‘double dip’ in this marketplace,” he said. “London continues to be buoyant, with good short lead-time business becoming available, however the rest of the country is receiving less revenue on the whole.”

Pinnington added that, since the election, central government had effectively stopped spending money on conferences and meetings. “We expect this trend to continue throughout 2011 and 2012, until the deficit reduction measures have fed through the entire public sector and the political agenda changes,” he told CN.

Recent industry consolidation, “where Capita has bought BSI and Expotel has bought Venues Event Management, is beneficial to our business, since there are clients who prefer to deal with mid-sized businesses who can offer greater flexibility in decision-making and reactivity to their requirements,” he said.

NYS Corporate was established in 1977 and manages turnover in excess of £40m per year.
