Birmingham ICC’s hosting of this autumn’s Conservative Party conference is the eighth major party political conference for the city in five years.

The city hosted the Tories’ key annual event in 2008 and has it booked again in 2012.

Tourism board, Marketing Birmingham, will be working on the extra security implications now that the Tories are in government and believes its Team Birmingham strategy, which involves 15 key partners (as well as a further 12 partners in its Birmingham Fringe Programme) will continue to promote the city to the visiting media, politicians and businesses as a destination for business and conferencing.

“The Conservative Party conference is a perfect opportunity to promote Birmingham’s fantastic conference offering to other major event organisers,” says Marketing Birmingham Commercial Director, Ian Taylor. “We have it all here: world class conference venues, restaurants, bars and shops twinned with a host of city partners working together to ensure that events run seamlessly.”

The Team Birmingham approach, Taylor says, has been paying dividends, with two political conferences in the city this year alone, and eight within a five-year period.

Up to 15,000 delegates are expected at the Conservative Party Conference 3-6 October.
