The Lowry arts and entertainment venue at Salford Quays, Manchester, is
expanding its conference facilities with a development within the Digital World
Centre building, situated adjacent to the main entrance of The Lowry itself.
The new facilities will include a fixed seated, tiered theatre,
accommodating 100 delegates, and 350sqm of exhibition space.
The expansion will add to The Lowry’s
existing event spaces, which include the circular Compass Room, featuring 360
degree views of the Manchester skyline, with a capacity of 250
delegates theatre-style.
The Lowry also features Gallery spaces for
receptions and two performance theatres for larger scale conferences and events
(Lyric Theatre 1,730 seats and Quays Theatre 440 seats).
The overall objective of this commercial
expansion The Lowry’s management says is to continue to support its world-class
theatre programme, the LS Lowry collection and education work. As a registered
charity, The Lowry receives only 15 per cent of its income through public
funding.
Mathew Jayne, Head of Hospitality at The Lowry comments,
“Following continued growth of the conference and events business at The Lowry
and the development of Salford Quays and Manchester as a business tourism destination,
in particular with MediaCityUK as our soon-to-be neighbour, we have been looking
at commercial expansion opportunities to continue to support the amazing work we
do here. The conference centre at Digital World Centre is ideally located and
offers the additional capacity and flexibility that will meet the needs of our
client’s demand.”
