Organiser Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) claims this year’s China Incentive Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition (CIBTM 2010) in Beijing, is the “largest ever” in terms of floor space, hosted buyer numbers and exhibitors.
The show’s hosted buyer programme signed 275 buyers including 105 Beijing buyers, which overall was a 19 per cent increase on 2009’s levels. The total floor space increased year-on-year by 20 per cent to over 7,000sqm and a total of 310 Chinese and international exhibitors representing 26 countries.
New exhibitors include the Taiwan national tourism board and the airline carrier marketing group, Star Alliance. Both the South Korean and Japanese national tourism organisations have increased their presence at the show.
CIBTM, 31 August to 2 September at Beijing’s China National Convention Centre, is officially backed by the Beijing Tourism Administration and co-hosted by the China National Tourism Administration and the Beijing Municipal Government.
“It is a great source of inspiration that the national and regional government has decided to support CIBTM,” says exhibition director, Jeffery Xu. “It is a clear signal the government wants to fully leverage the meetings and incentive travel sector as an area for growth and development.”
Group exhibition director of RTE’s meetings and events portfolio, Craig Moyes, says it is the most exciting time for the growth and development of the meetings industry in China. “In China alone, the company organised over 40 events last year bringing together over 20,000 suppliers and around 700,000 visitors.
“The combination of our global operation and our portfolio approach means that we can provide our customers with high calibre education too. CIBTM is now the largest and most established show for the industry in China and with the support of the Chinese Government, the Beijing Municipal Government and China National Tourism Administration, CIBTM together with the inaugural China Meetings Week is set to further establish the country as a major choice destination for meetings and incentives, rivaling other more established Asian and international destinations.”
