Liverpool has broken its
hotel-booking record set in its European Capital of Culture year
2008. July of this year saw almost 95,000 rooms booked,
compared to 78,000 in July 2009 and 86,000 in July 2008, the year Liverpool was declared a European Capital of
Culture. A total of 486,401 rooms were sold across the
destination between January and June 2010, exceeding 2008 by 11 per
cent. Visit Liverpool says the surge in bookings is due
in part to several conferences and events held in the area, as well as several
consumer and business tourism marketing initiatives.
