MCI launches Korea office in joint venture with Kim’s Travel

International association and event management agency, MCI, has launched its first Korean office in Seoul in a joint venture with destination management company (DMC), Kim’s Travel.
In the agreement with the DMC, its meetings and events subsidiary, M&C Planners, will be rebranded into MCI Korea. Kim’s Travel founder, Chun Kim, will act as CEO of MCI Korea while M&C Planners’ director general, Peter Lee, will take the position of executive director for meetings and events and destination management.
Steve Kim, from the Daejeon Convention Bureau and Center, will join the newly-formed DMC as executive director for association management and consulting.
“We believe it is a great step for the Korean meetings industry to have one of the global leaders firmly established in our country,” says Chun Kim. “We can see significant new business through this joint venture, which will bring great benefit to all our clients, partners and suppliers.”
MCI Korea has announced it will make a “significant investment” in FAMC, which it says is the only association management company (AMC) in Korea.
FAMC is to become the association management division of MCI in Korea. Glynn Cho, founder of FAMC, says: “Our partnership with MCI will help FAMC to become the leading AMC in the region and support the Korean association sector to further enhance its professionalism and impact.”
MCI now has 11 offices and over 200 professional employees in Asia. “Many international and Asia Pacific associations have leaders from Korea and we look forward to working with them to bring more conferences here,” says the president of MCI Asia Pacific, Robin Lokerman.
