New association buyer research released

Association buyers are not heavily impacted by procurement departments and event budgets for 2010 are being maintained, according to a new survey.
Bridget Baker Consulting and Moneypennies have collaborated to investigate the latest buying patterns of association conference buyers. The partnership conducted in-depth interviews with 20 UK-based associations which hold more than 500 conferences and events annually, both nationally and internationally, attracting 70,000 delegates.
“There were some very encouraging trends that are positive news for venues seeking to attract or increase their market share in this important segment. Well over half the buyers are holding the same number of events this year as in 2009 and 20 per cent are holding more,” says Bridget Baker.
The research also found that virtual meetings have yet to replace any live events and are not expected to in the near future and, while day conferences predominate, around one-third are for more than two days, signs that residential events have not totally vanished.
The full findings of the research are to be presented at the Meetings Industry Association’s meeting and event at the Grand Hotel, Brighton, 6 September.
