Clive Tyers

The Bournemouth International Centre has announced that Head of Conferences & Events, Clive Tyers, is to take early retirement in October after 16 years at the venue.

During his time at BIC, Tyers has played a key role in the redevelopment and expansion of the BIC in 2005 into a four-auditorium conference, exhibition, entertainment and events venue.

The BIC contributes over £60m into the local economy per annum and welcomes 700,000 visitors per year.

Tyers led the launch of the town’s conference bureau in 2003. It was recently rebranded as ‘Meet Bournemouth’.

“I am very proud of the economic impact generated as a result of the consistently high volumes of conference business delivered by the BIC and Meet Bournemouth team over the years”, said Tyers. “It’s been a privilege working with a great team at the BIC and alongside our business partners in the town who have helped shape Bournemouth into a premier and internationally recognised conference destination.”

Tyers served on the board of the British Association of Conference Destinations (BACD) for 12 years, an association he chaired in 2000.  He says he is now planning to take a break, but to stay in Bournemouth and take up a couple of consultancy options, “then consider what other opportunities this next phase of my life will offer”.

Chief Executive for BIC operator, BH Live, Peter Gunn, said: “Clive has made a significant contribution to the success of the BIC over a number of years and will be greatly missed by clients, colleagues and business partners both locally and nationally. We all wish him every success for the future”
