Wirral Council in the
north west, has given permission for Wirral Waters, the largest planning
application ever to be submitted in the UK, according to Property Week. The
plans include 400,000 sq. ft of hotel and conference facilities.
Wirral
Waters is an 18m sq. ft regeneration scheme that could transform the economic
fortunes of Birkenhead and Wallasey, as well as the broader Liverpool
city-region.
Land developer Peel will lead the work on the East Float site. The development is expected to deliver more than 20,000 new jobs and over 13,500 new homes, as well as a major retail development.
Lindsey Ashworth, Peel director, said she is “absolutely delighted” with the Wirral Planning Committee decision. “It is what the public wanted and what the area is crying out for. This is an historical day for the future of the Wirral and the entire city region”.
The scheme still needs government, approval, but Peel is hopeful of starting work on the site next year. The whole programme is expected to take around 30 years to complete.
