‘Guaranteed green’ accommodation booking site launched by GTBS

An online booking site featuring only properties with third-party eco-certification has been launched by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).
Claiming to be the first such ‘guaranteed green’ online accommodation booking tool, the site, www.green-business.co.uk, currently features 500 venues in the UK and Ireland and has plans for 1,500 by the end of the year.
Managing director of the GTBS, Andrea Nicholas, says: “Suppliers range from bed and breakfasts and self-catering providers to five-star boutique hotels as well as business focused properties which update regularly with special offers and rates.
“The aim of the site is to help buyers distinguish between credible and not-so-credible claims of environmental-mindedness among accommodation providers. For the first time there is a booking resource which features only those who consistently meet standards endorsed by the International Centre for Responsible Tourism.”
The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the only tourism eco-certification programme in the UK endorsed by VisitEngland, VisitScotland and VisitWales and has been validated by the International Centre for Responsible Tourism since 2008. GTBS has 2,200 members.
