Hailed as a “template for future events” by The Times newspaper, comedian and author, Stephen Fry, together with publisher Penguin, are to launch the second volume of his autobiography titled The Fry Chronicles via a network of 60 cinemas around the UK.
The author and renowned celebrity ‘tweeter’ will be reading from the book for a three night tour of London, Oxford and Cambridge. As part of a new experiment, the 13 September event will be broadcast live from the Royal Festival Hall direct via satellite to selected Picturehouse cinemas all over the country. The organiser has 12,000 tickets on offer for the screenings and it is hoped that audiences will be able to submit questions for Fry via Twitter.
“Live, as it actually happens, in two glorious dimensions,” says Fry. “Sadly nearly all the tickets for it have been bought by someone called Arnold. But never mind!”
Head of alternative content at Picturehouse, Marc Allenby, told the newspaper that staging non-film events “brings a whole new audience and makes them reconsider what cinema is about. It will absolutely be part of the mix for years to come.”
