Manchester Central Convention Complex has won the bid to host the Museum Association’s Annual Conference and Exhibition, which claims to be Europe’s largest museum and gallery event.
The three-day event, which is estimated to attract 1,400 museum professionals, is due to take place from 4 to 6 October 2010. It will also hold evening events in the recently redeveloped People’s History Museum and the expanded Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI).
“Manchester Central has made some significant improvements to the venue over the last few years, and we are very impressed with the work it has done,” says the director of the Museum Association, Mark Taylor. “The changes will provide an easier and more comfortable experience for delegates to the conference, exhibitors and visitors to the exhibition.
“We have also found that the amenities throughout Manchester have also improved significantly over the last decade,” he adds.
Keynote speakers include the director of the British Museum, Neil MacGregor, and the director of the Manchester International Festival, Alex Poots. The conference opening address will be by the secretary of state for culture, Jeremy Hunt.
