Edinburgh Airport hotel and conference centre plans lodged

A new Edinburgh Airport hotel and conference centre, with a capacity for up to 700 delegates, has been proposed by Glasgow-based Vinanian Developments to address the “chronic shortage” of accommodation for air passengers.

The 168-bedroom hotel, if approved by the council, will be located adjacent to the A8 airport slip road and positioned nearby the Royal Bank of Scotland’s headquarters and the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston.

Designed by architects Young and Gault, the plans show a series of syndicate rooms and a banqueting hall. The brand of hotel has yet to be decided.

"The proposed development will offer accommodation, a restaurant, leisure facilities and extensive conference facilities, thus responding to the increasing demand for quality bedrooms and business services close to the airport,” says the architect in a design statement. “There is a chronic shortage of bed space there.” 

The airport management, BAA’s spokesman said: "We recognise that west Edinburgh is under-served by hotel rooms. Any increase in capacity is to be welcomed."
