The UK economy has recorded a jump of 1.1 per cent, its fastest growth in three years between April and June, according to second-quarter GDP figures from the Office for National Statistics.
The figure is a preliminary estimate, and almost double the 0.6 per cent growth rate expected by economists.
A strong rebound in the country’s industrial output led to much of the acceleration, while the services sector, which makes up around three-quarters of economic output, is also likely to have performed strongly despite the impact of the Icelandic volcano eruption.
