Venue Cymru in Llandudno, Wales, has won the right to host the Royal Astronomical Society’s national meeting in April 2011.
The venue says the conference, which will attract more than 500 academics and industry professionals from the UK and overseas, will give the region’s business conference economy an enormous boost. “Our business delegates are very important to Llandudno and play a key part in maintaining the viability and popularity of the resort,” says Venue Cymru’s conference and events manager, Adrian LaTrobe.
LaTrobe says the four-day event in April will be worth more than £200,000 to the local economy.
The Royal Astronomical Society is the UK’s leading body in astronomy, geophysics, and planetary science and its executive secretary, David Elliott, is a frequent leisure visitor to North Wales. He was so impressed by Llandudno that he recommended Venue Cymru as a suitable venue for the 2011 meeting.
