Money’s too tight to mention in Hucknall?

The Nottinghamshire Police Authority has invested £1.47 million in its conference and training centre in Hucknall.
The site is a former international clothing centre on Annesley Road, bought by the force last September and due to open later this year. Fifty staff will move there from the force’s Sherwood Lodge HQ.
The police authority recently approved a further £166,000 to install AV facilities in the centre’s reception area, but also demanded a detailed business case to show how the centre planned to generate income.
Local news website ThisisNottingham.co.uk had several angry postings questioning the need for spending on the facility.
Authority chairman Councillor Jon Collins defended the plans for the centre which, he said, “sounded like a good idea but I want to be confident that we have a proper plan for bookings and that it’s going to be used. My worry is that a year or so down the line we will be asking how much are we getting it used externally?”
Former authority committee chairman, John Clarke, believes the centre will earn a lot of money over time. “We can train 2-3,000 people at a time there. A lot of time and effort went into purchasing this.”
Conservative councillors had opposed the ICC (international clothing centre) being turned into a training centre. “The ICC was built with European money but this use of the building will do nothing to benefit the Hucknall community,” one Tory, councillor Mick Murphy, had alleged.
