Director of Conference Sales
Glasgow
Ref: LM10265

The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) plays a unique role in the city of Glasgow and is now seeking to recruit a Director of Conference Sales. It is an iconic landmark and is Scotland’s premier national venue for public events, concerts and conferences, with facilities that are second to none on a global stage. As Glasgow continues to evolve, so will the SECC’s story. It has recently been named as the UK’s Best UK Conference Centre, recognised as the industry’s “gold standard” it also underpins Glasgow as Scotland’s conference capital. The SECC has also beaten off stiff opposition to win a Gold Star Award for the Greenest Conference Venue.

The SECC hosts genuinely world class conferencing facilities enhanced by the recent opening of the Foster & Partners designed Hydro Arena which is a major new landmark on the Glasgow skyline. Together with the Clyde Auditorium, affectionately known "Armadillo" and the other conferencing facilities on the SECC campus, there now exists a unique opportunity to deliver truly exceptional conferencing events.

There is now a rare opportunity for a talented and creative Director of Conference Sales to join the senior management team reporting directly to the Group CEO. The brief is to build upon the SECC’s reputation as a leader in national and international conferences. As Director of Conference Sales you will be working for a highly recognised brand, taking responsibility for a key part in leading the next stage of the SECC’s continued success as both the Hydro and the SECC are poised to become internationally iconic in their own right. You will be primarily responsible for maximising revenues by delivering optimum utilisation and occupancy of the SECC facilities for conferences.

As Director of Conference Sales you will be instrumental in maximising existing relationships with key high profile clients as well as developing new business opportunities and bringing new conferences to the venue.  You will naturally be commercially aware, creative and entrepreneurial in seeking out and securing additional conference revenues and this is most likely to have a global reach. You will have a background in the conference industry; possibly you will be working for a major venue in the UK, Europe or beyond. Alternatively you may be working for a leading conference organiser or a major city conference bureau, whatever your background you will have a strong desire to make your mark in this industry and this role offers the perfect opportunity to do just that.

This Director of Conference Sales is a highly entrepreneurial, high profile and rewarding role with considerable autonomy and scope will deliver career real progression opportunities. The remuneration package has the facility to attract the best in the industry. The package will include a six figure base salary, bonus, car and other executive benefits including relocation support.
