MIA appoints new council members

The Meetings Industry Association (MIA) has appointed five new co-opted council members.

Functions and meetings manager for Chartered Accountants’ Hall, London, Ed Bolling is taking on New Member Development and, GM for Conferences and Events at the University of Birmingham, Julie Zacaroli will be responsible for Events Planning.

BACD growing into merger

Marketing Birmingham is back in the BACD fold after a three-year gap.

The impending merger of the British Association of Conference Destinations (BACD) with trade body Eventia is helping to drive new membership growth for BACD, according to the association which also announced that Llandudno Conference Solutions had been accepted into membership.

AIBTM to take place in Baltimore in June 2010

Boris Johnson formally announced the start of building work on the next phase of development at Excel London, by laying a commemorative stone on 7 October.

Excel CEO Kevin Murphy said it was a “special day for Londoners” and underlined that the venue would be hosting seven Olympic and five Para Olympic events in 2012.
