Conference Awards 2010

Following a tough time for the meetings and events industry in the past year or two, it is more important than ever to celebrate the successes and recognise the hard work and dedication of those people who work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver live events and conferences.

The Conference Awards, to be held at Plaisterers’ Hall 25 June, provide an opportunity to do just that.

The new awards will reward excellence, showcase innovation and provide a quality benchmark for individuals, teams and companies in the conference industry, the organisers claim.

The awards are being launched by Rory Ross Russell and Claire Wormsley, former board members at Informa and Incisive Media respectively, and seasoned veterans in the world of conferences. The idea was first conceived last summer and since they have assembled a judging panel which, says Ross-Russell “resembles a Who’s Who in the Conference Industry. See http://www.conferenceawards.co.uk/judging.html

“We’ve got some fantastic entries in already which demonstrate how innovative and industrious people have been in the past year in trying to carve out successful events in a very difficult climate,” says Russell.
All the main players in the commercial conference industry are involved including ICBI, Centaur, UBM, Management Forum, Terrapin and WBR.
“As well as boosting staff morale, being recognised as the best in market could increase the value of an event in sponsorship terms and future delegate numbers... so people are recognising that there are good reasons to enter,” Russell adds.

Headline category sponsors include Hiscox, Parliament Speakers, Concerto Group, DRP Group.
“Sponsors are keen to meet the CEOs and MDs at these traditionally ‘difficult to reach’ companies who organise tens of thousands of conferences between them every year. There has not really been an opportunity to do that at one event until now.”

Ruby Wax will host the 25 June event and Conference News is headline media partner.
