The University of East London (UEL) has announced it will move to ExCeL London in 2018 for its graduation ceremonies.
UEL, which previously used The O2 for the ceremonies, will host two events at ExCeL in 2018, one in July and one in November, which together will welcome 3,000 students and their families.
UEL will use all of ExCeL’s International Convention Centre (ICC) and will have an interconnected space for registration, gowning, receptions and photography. The venue’s auditorium will be used for the ceremonies themselves.
Professor Nora Colton, UEL acting vice-chancellor, said: “With 77% of our students coming from east London boroughs, we are delighted that we can use a world-renowned venue in Newham, in the Royal Docks, to celebrate our graduates’ achievements.”
ExCeL CEO David Pegler added: “We are delighted that UEL have chosen ExCeL London for their graduation ceremonies next year. This is a great example of two neighbouring businesses coming together to host what I believe will be a truly great event. We look forward to welcoming UEL students and their families to ExCeL London.”
