The flurry of mergers and acquisitions activity in the events sector is in contrast to the caution seen in the wider business community. Consolidation is a ubiquitous part of the business landscape, but recent months have seen a peak in activity including larger takeovers as BCD Meetings and Events took on Zibrant, American Express Global Business Travel acquired Banks Sadler, as well as smaller deals between agencies. Other huge deals have taken place between hotel groups and we’ve even seen large event tech companies joining forces.
MPI UK & Ireland chapter will be debating what this means to the events industry at their next MPI Insights event, at Royal Lancaster London, 25 September at 6.30pm. Round table discussions will take place over dinner following a presentation from Richard Bandell, independent corporate advisor and previously CEO and non-executive board director at Grass Roots.
During the evening attendees will be discussing the impact of recent mergers and acquisitions – on clients and suppliers, who benefits? What are the key market drivers? What does the future hold for smaller agencies and hotel groups? And what will the landscape for agencies and venues look like in 5 years?
Speakers from throughout the industry, including Dana Lewis from Accor Hotels, Pantea Shafie of Sodexo, David Chalmers from Cvent and Simon White from Square Meal, will guide the conversations throughout the evening which promises to deliver a healthy debate.
Jane Baker, MPI UK & Ireland Chapter president said, “Our industry has seen some significant mergers and acquisitions in the last 18 months that impact corporates, agencies, hotels and events sector suppliers. At this latest MPI Insights event, Richard and our wider panel of industry experts will offer guests a fascinating insight into this growing M&A trend, the benefits and risks involved as well as the longer-term impact on the sector overall.”
