Sheffield will play host to the first ever conference for the outdoor recreation industries, when Outdoors Future Camp is held at Ecclesall Woods Discovery Centre, 5-6 September.
Sheffield is campaigning hard to be seen as a leading destination for those seeking outdoor adventure, city culture and rural escapes. A third of the city nestled within the Peak District National Park and the city council has calculated that its citizens spend more per head on outdoor equipment and take part in more outdoor pursuits than anywhere else in the UK.
Sheffield is also home to more than 200 outdoor businesses.
In addition to market insight sessions, speakers and workshops, the Outdoors Future Camp has an overnight camp-out element and a series of activities including trail-running, bouldering and mountain biking all within easy access of the conference hub.
A joint initiative by the Outdoor Industry Association and ISPO Academy, Outdoors Future Camp is aimed at younger up-and-coming outdoor professionals, with a focus on developing future leaders.
Sheffield highlighted its outdoor credentials with an Outdoor Economic Report in 2015 when it launched itself as ‘The Outdoor City’.
Councillor Mazher Iqbal, Sheffield City Council’s Cabinet member for business & investment, said: “We are delighted that Outdoors Future Camp will be held in Sheffield. We have a great reputation for hosting business events and conferences thanks to the work of Conference Sheffield and the exceptional venues and hoteliers that operate in the city. Our status as The Outdoor City makes this particular event even more fitting and gives us the opportunity to showcase some of the more alternative venues, settings and experiences that Sheffield has to offer.”
CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association, Andrew Denton, said: “Not only will the Outdoors Future Camp offer delegates an inspiring programme, it will present a platform for them to be listened to and give insight into how the UK outdoor industry will develop with them in charge; it’s a great opportunity for all outdoor companies to invest in the future of the industry.”
The Festival and Outdoor Events Show (Festout), meanwhile, launches 27-28 September 2017 at Sandown Park in Surrey. Register here to claim your complimentary ticket.
