Somerset House got into the festive spirit early on Thursday 29 June, hosting the annual Christmas in June showcase from leading retailer Sainsbury’s. This event was the first year that Sainsbury’s and its associated brands Argos and Habitat showcased its Christmas and Autumn/Winter offering together, as the Sainsbury’s Group, all under one roof.
The event in Somerset House’s Portico Rooms and Navy Board Rooms exhibited the best of Christmas homeware, food and drink from Sainsbury’s, which guests were able to sample throughout the day and evening. Meanwhile, the Argos and Habitat offering was showcased throughout the 1,059sqm Embankment Galleries space. All catering was provided by SMART Hospitality, which exclusively used Sainsbury’s Christmas products, and the design was led by Fisher Productions.
The Sainsbury’s theme for 2017 was based on the Orient Express, where over 380 attendees were taken on a festive train journey to the North Pole. The Sainsbury’s CEO, Mike Coupe, and other key senior colleagues and stakeholders also attended.
Jenny Freestone, head of corporate events for Somerset House Trust, said: “It was a pleasure to host the Sainsbury’s annual Christmas in June event. Christmas is a very exciting time of the year for Somerset House, with our famous outdoor ice rink taking centre stage, and it was wonderful to experience the festive spirit already. It was also great to exhibit The Sainsbury’s Group’s showcase throughout our variety of venue spaces and highlight how diverse they can be.”
